Our story: The Board, in a Bag

I'm writing this on my phone hotspot on the train, the one I take four hours every week to co-parent our six-year-old between Connecticut and New York City. That train is where I do a lot of my thinking about WildBoard. My heavy cross-body bag contains everything: work, clothes, chargers, first aid kit, samples, snacks. This is the context in which we're building a brand.

Jenny is a surgeon. We have six kids ranging from young professionals to elementary school. We're a queer household running between two states, with life pulling us each in a million directions, and we're doing this thing together.

One of our older daughters is getting married at our house this fall in front of the same pond where we got married a couple of years ago. It’s a lot. It is also the most beautiful chaos we have ever felt our way through, and we would not change a single thing about it.

The board is the heart of our home. She lives on the kitchen island and never really gets put away. Jenny comes home, pauses at the board, makes a snack, checks in with whoever just walked through the door. She sits with them while they talk about their day. I'm the one trailing behind with the bench scraper, managing the sticky drips and crumbs. Jenny keeps reminding me to put the scraper down and enjoy the board instead. She's usually right.

When we went looking for that feeling on store shelves, something to carry into the moments outside our home, we couldn't find it. We wanted snacks that nourished the way we try to nourish the people we love.

We wanted those globally-inspired flavors we actually serve and eat at our table. Nuts, seeds, and roasted chickpeas always hit the spot for our whole family, but the flavors in the trail mix aisle sent us looking elsewhere. The aisle was mostly sweet, mostly nuts dressed up differently in different bags. If you wanted savory, your only real options were heavy-handed, one-note spice blends that numbed your palate or cheese powders on more nuts.

So we made it. The board, in a bag. Each cluster is layered the way we build our board: complex, a little unexpected, worth lingering over. Savory trail mix that tastes like it came from a kitchen where people actually gather and feed each other.

This board has been at every important moment in our life together. She served cheese to our guests at our wedding. She comes with us to events now, burn rings and all, and gets set up on whatever table we're assigned for sampling and at pitch slams. She gets loaded with samples, admired by strangers, and then comes home to be scraped, scrubbed, re-oiled, and inspected. The bench scraper has never been busier. And it only makes sense that this board is also at the beginning of this one.

If the trail mix aisle forgot about you too, you're in the right place.

From our board to yours,

This is the kind of thing we write about.
If you want more of it.

What we Stand For

Globally-Inspired Flavors

We love serving and eating globally-inspired foods at home. Our board always reflects that curiosity and generosity. It reminds us of our travels, and to dream together about travels-to-be. The trail mix aisle had forgotten about adults who wanted those flavors, those stories, those moments of connection to the world. Every WildBoard cluster brings that back.

Real Ingredients

Whole nuts, seeds, roasted chickpeas, and real spices: these are the kind of things we actually want in our home and in our bodies. We skip anything that distances you from what you're eating, and that's what shows up in the bag.

Community First

The board is a gathering place. It's where people show up and connect. WildBoard exists to create those moments wherever you are., to bring them into everyday moments of our lives: the commute, your desk at 3pm, courtside at your kid’s game. We show up for the people we love, the communities we're part of, and the snackers who've been waiting for something like this. That's what it means to us.
